Sometimes but don’t count on it. Whether you can buy a vape at the airport depends entirely on the country and the airport. Some airports have vape retailers or duty-free shops that stock them; many sell nothing at all. And even where they’re sold, you almost certainly can’t use one inside the terminal.

This guide covers the real 2026 picture for UK, US, Dubai and EU airports plus the flying rules that apply everywhere.

Do UK airports sell vapes?

Sometimes, but selection is limited. A few UK airports have airside retailers or duty-free outlets that stock vaping products, but most do not have dedicated vape shops. What you won’t find anywhere in the UK: disposable vapes single-use sales have been banned since June 2025.

Two 2026 changes matter for UK travellers:

  • Vaping Products Duty (from 1 Oct 2026): the £2.20-per-10ml duty applies to everything sold in the UK, including airport shops. Don’t expect airside bargains see our UK vape tax breakdown.
  • The 50ml traveller allowance: since 1 October 2026, arrivals in Great Britain can bring in only 50ml of vape liquid duty-free (that includes liquid sealed inside prefilled pods and disposables). Go over it without declaring and Border Force can seize the lot not just the excess.

Can you vape at a UK airport? Not inside the terminal. Vaping is treated like smoking: permitted only in designated outdoor smoking areas, usually before security. Once you’re airside, you’re on your own until you land.

Do US airports sell vapes?

Often, yes. Many larger US airports have newsstands, convenience stores or specialty shops airside that sell vapes and e-liquids. Availability varies wildly by airport and terminal a major hub like JFK or LAX is far more likely to stock them than a small regional airport.

The rules that actually matter in the US are the TSA’s:

  • Carry-on only, never checked baggage. Under federal rules (49 CFR 175.10), battery-powered vaping devices are prohibited in checked luggage because of lithium-battery fire risk. Carry-on or on your person no exceptions.
  • No vaping or charging onboard. Federal smoking rules ban both, not just airline policy.
  • E-liquid follows the 100ml rule: bottles of 100ml/3.4oz or less in a clear quart-size bag.
  • Batteries: spare lithium batteries at or below 100Wh are fine in carry-on; 100–160Wh needs airline approval (max two spares).

Can you vape at a US airport? Almost never indoors. A handful of airports still have enclosed smoking lounges, but the overwhelming majority ban vaping throughout the terminal. Assume you’ll need to go outside (before security) or wait.

Do Dubai airports sell vapes?

Yes Dubai is one of the most reliable places to buy. Dubai Airport’s duty-free shops sell vapes and e-cigarettes, with government-regulated sale and age limits. For travellers on layovers, it’s one of the few airports in the world where you can reliably pick one up airside.

The catch is on the ground: the UAE regulates vape use strictly, and you should only vape in designated smoking areas. Rules and social attitudes are far less relaxed than in the US or UK when in doubt, don’t.

Do EU airports sell vapes?

It depends on the country. The EU has no bloc-wide rule, and the landscape is fragmented:

  • France, Belgium and the UK have banned single-use (disposable) vape sales entirely.
  • Denmark and the Netherlands allow only tobacco flavours.
  • Bulgaria, Austria and Poland have bans working through notification.
  • Personal-use quantities can still cross borders legally customs target commercial sale, not your pocket but devices must travel in carry-on.

Some major EU hubs stock vapes in duty-free or travel-retail shops; many don’t. As with everywhere else: check before you fly.

Can you vape inside the airport?

As a near-universal rule: no. Airport terminals ban vaping indoors in the UK, US, EU and UAE alike. The exceptions are rare a few airports retain ventilated smoking lounges or outdoor terraces airside. Your realistic options:

  1. Vape in the designated outdoor smoking area before security.
  2. Don’t vape again until you’ve landed and exited the destination terminal.
  3. Never vape on the plane not even in the toilet. Smoke detectors don’t care about your intentions, and the fines are real.

Flying with your vape: the checklist

  • Device in carry-on or pocket never in checked baggage
  • Device switched off (or locked) to prevent accidental activation
  • E-liquid bottles 100ml or less, in a clear resealable bag
  • Spare batteries protected (case or terminal covers), 100Wh or under
  • Empty or partially empty tanks cabin pressure makes full tanks leak; sealed pods leak less
  • Check your destination country’s vape laws before you fly (some ban vapes outright)
  • Arriving in the UK? Remember the 50ml duty-free allowance

Should you buy vapes at the airport?

Our verdict: buy before you fly. Airport availability is unreliable, airside prices are rarely good (and in the UK now carry the £2.20/10ml duty anyway), and selection is whatever one retailer chose to stock. The one exception is a long layover in a place like Dubai, where duty-free is genuinely well stocked.
